Indianapolis Healthy Babies Consortium
What We Do
The Healthy Babies Consortium, along with the Indianapolis Healthy Start Program, is a community partnership dedicated to enhancing the health and well-being of mothers and infants. This collaborative effort unites local healthcare providers, community members, educational institutions, and the Marion County Public health department, all working together to achieve a common goal: improving birth outcomes and reducing infant mortality rates. The Consortium meets quarterly (typically January, April, July and October) and is always looking for new members.
Every year, countless families are affected by the heartbreaking reality of infant loss, emphasizing the critical need for effective strategies and support systems. The consortium focuses on various initiatives, including prenatal care education, access to healthcare services, and awareness campaigns that highlight the importance of maternal health.
By fostering relationships between healthcare professionals and community members, we aim to create a supportive environment where mothers can seek assistance, access resources, and feel empowered throughout their pregnancy and beyond. In addition, the consortium conducts research and analyzes vital health data to identify trends and challenges related to fetal and infant health.
This data-driven approach ensures that our initiatives are targeted and effective, addressing specific needs within the community. Through advocacy efforts, we work to influence policy changes that benefit maternal and child health, so that every family has access to the care they need.
The community’s involvement is essential to the success of our mission. We encourage Marion County residents to participate in our programs, share their experiences, and help us raise awareness about the importance of maternal and infant health. Together, we can create a healthier future for the next generation and give every baby the healthy start they deserve.
Diaper Den
The Healthy Baby Consortium/Diaper Den is dedicated to eliminating diaper need in our community by providing a reliable and sufficient supply of diapering essentials. We supply children with diapers and basic diapering necessities that every child deserves to maintain their health and well-being.
In addition to diapers, we also provide sanitary napkins and tampons for girls and women in need. We believe that access to menstrual products is vital for maintaining dignity and health, and we are committed to addressing this important aspect of women’s health alongside diaper distribution.
We collect diapers and menstrual supplies and distribute them directly to families as well as through our community partners. We recognize that providing these necessities can significantly ease the financial burden that many families face.
Our goal is to foster a clean and healthy environment for babies and women in our community. By offering free diapers and menstrual products to those in need, we can make a positive impact on health, social well-being and the economy.
This initiative influences a range of beneficial outcomes, including:
- Positive changes in parental mood, which helps reduce the risk of childhood abuse.
- Improved child health and happiness, nurturing their ability to learn and grow.
- Increased opportunities for childcare, work stability, and school attendance.
Supporting families with the necessary resources, we empower them to focus on their children's development and overall quality of life. Our work not only addresses immediate needs but also encourages community engagement, building stronger support networks for families. We collaborate with local organizations to raise awareness about the importance of access to diapers and menstrual products, and to advocate for policies that assist low-income families. Together, we strive to ensure that no child or woman must go without the necessities required for a healthy start in life. This collective effort helps break the cycle of poverty and promotes a brighter future for our community's children and women.
