Nutrition Classes

Who We Are

The path to healthy eating leads right through a classroom, and education is a vital step in the journey. Understanding how to make good nutrition choices and learning foundational cooking skills — as well as new tips and ideas — is how we keep healthy eating enjoyable. That's why we offer many educational options, from classes to resources for educators.

RESOURCES FOR EDUCATORS

Fruits & Veggies:
Watch Me Grow
A resource for Marion County Kindergarten through 4th grade educators. Watch Me Grow is a 3-week curriculum designed to increase fruit and vegetable intake in school-age children kindergarten through 4th grade. The Nutrition Services staff will bring all the necessary supplies to your classroom for about an hour for 3 weeks and facilitate the program for you. If you are interested in this program for your classroom, e-mail JRuppert@MarionHealth.org

Life’s Best Beginnings
A resource for high school health educators. This program is a curriculum developed for the education and promotion of breastfeeding in secondary education. Children learn about other aspects of human biology, so it makes sense that they should also be taught how babies are fed and how that may impact human health. This curriculum introduces students to basic concepts and benefits of breastfeeding that may positively impact their decision-making regarding their infant feeding choices in the future.

Lactation Specialists – Coming Soon
Have a lactation specialist speak to your classroom. Our lactation specialist can visit your high school classroom to discuss breastfeeding in a Q + A style format. For more information or to inquire about this curriculum contact PHorton@MarionHealth.org

Healthy School Celebrations
Our newest resource for schools and educators. This program is a tool for educators to help foster a healthy school environment. There are lots of reasons to celebrate at school, and not all those celebrations need to include sweets and sugar. Our team of dietitians have put together a toolkit that you can implement into your school that sets some guidelines around foods and snacks used for school celebrations, and offers some creative, non-food-based ways to celebrate. This is a free resource for Marion County educators.
