Nutrition and Physical Activity
What It’s About
This program is offered for grades 5 through 12. Participants will complete 4 to 10 Lessons dependent on grade level.
National health standards want students to learn how to manage themselves, access information, analyze influences, and set goals for healthy living. Essentially, this program seeks to make students more aware of what they do to their bodies and what foods they put into their bodies.
Students will learn what is in their food and what nutrients are important to look for. Older students will focus on topics such as healthy and unhealthy ways to manage weight, facts and myths about nutrition practices, and preparing healthy delicious meals.
Skills that students will gain on completion of this program include:
- Analyzing personal food intake
- Assessing barriers to healthy eating and physical activity
- Reading nutrition labels
- Healthy ways to manage weight
- Selecting foods with nutritional value
