A smiling doctor with glasses and a stethoscope talks to a woman in a busy indoor setting, possibly a clinic or health fair, holding papers in his hand.

One of MCPHD’s westside Women, Infants and Children (WIC) clinics has moved into a larger location.

The operations at Marion County WIC at West 38th Street – located at 5515 West 38th Street – have moved 1.7 miles northwest to a new home as WIC at Parkdale – located at 6620 Parkdale Place, Suite R2.

“It is a beautiful facility, and we have about double the space as the West 38th Street clinic,” said Denise Ferguson, MCPHD’s Administrator of Nutrition Services. “It is nice to have our westside clinic located within a large medical complex, with plenty of nearby parking for our participants.”

The WIC at West 38th Street clinic was very busy, seeing about 5,000 participants each month. Ferguson said the WIC’s program’s needs had simply outgrown the clinic.

“We had four nutritionists and four clerks working at West 38th Street,” she said. “We wanted to add more staff to better serve our growing number of clients, but there wasn’t room to accommodate them there. We have added three nutritionists to the Parkdale team, which allows us to see more clients at a more relaxed pace”

Mallory Anson, the Manager of WIC at Parkdale, said the Parkdale clinic has a bigger waiting room, a play area for kids, additional office space and more room for nutrition education and breastfeeding support.

“The whole team is excited,” Anson said. “New, beautiful everything.”

The WIC at Parkdale clinic is open on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (but closed from noon until 1:00 for lunch), and on Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (but closed from 1:00 until 2:00 for lunch.)

The WIC program provides nutrition education and supplemental food vouchers to pregnant women, breastfeeding women and children up to the age of five. MCPHD’s WIC program serves between 34,000 and 35,000 participants each year at 11 clinics across Marion County.
