Social Work Programs
What We Do
Our programs are all designed to enhance social, environmental, emotional and behavioral health needs of the residents of Marion County.
School-Based Social Work Services
The department provides social work/behavioral health services to students at Crispus Attucks High School and Shortridge High School. Counseling services are provided to help students prepare for their future. Topics of discussion include grief and loss, communication skills, anger management, coping skills, relationship skills and self-esteem.
Mental Health and Wellness Committee
Members of the Social Work staff participate in providing depression screenings at various community locations throughout the year and help bring awareness to the stigma of Suicide and Mental Health. The committee provides “Feel Good Bingo” and “12 Steps to Healthy Aging” presentations to community agencies, senior residential facilities, and other programs throughout the county. Also, upon request, the committee can provide mental health and wellness education.
Safe Sitters Program
The Social Work Department facilitates classes to educate students ages 11 to 14 during the summer. Our trained staff members use Safe Sitter curriculum to train participants in child care and safety.
Community Initiatives
